June 2008
I don’t just ride the bus,
I fight global warming
The iConservePA logo and website recently landed on the back of an eco-friendly bus—the County of Lebanon Transit Authority’s new hybrid diesel. It offers up to 40 percent in fuel savings over a conventional diesel bus and a smooth, quiet ride. According to the American Public Transportation Association, use of transit in the U.S. saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline per year or almost four million gallons of gasoline per day. The results are cleaner air, fewer greenhouse gases, and more money in our wallets and, with the advent of hybrid buses, the benefits will only grow greener. Try public transportation on National Dump the Pump Day on June 19. Enjoy the ride!
Save our seas and our seafood
Celebrate World Ocean Day on June 8 by examining the world of ways you can protect our oceans and their inhabitants. While there are many problems afflicting our marine environment, overfishing casts a huge impact. Land the most sustainable seafood choices by obtaining your own Seafood Watch regional guide for the northeastern U.S. Learn more about World Ocean Day and create a sea of change by visiting the Ocean Conservancy.
Get Out!
Get outdoors on June 14 and enjoy National Get Outdoors Day, encouraging Americans, especially our youth, to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives and embrace our parks, forests, refuges and other public lands and waters. A program called Get Outdoors PA connects you to scores of memorable eye-popping, heart-pounding adventures all across the keystone state. Find an event to expand your horizons, then gear up and get out!
