April 2009

I don’t just drink water, I paddle it
The snow has melted, rivers are flowing, and the paddling season is soon upon us. Experience one of the fastest growing recreations - kayaking and canoeing - in guided fashion on one of 12 organized river sojourns this spring and summer, coordinated by the Pennsylvania Organization for Rivers and Watersheds. Immerse yourself on our greatest treasures—our waterways. Get treated like royalty on this year’s chosen queen--the middle and lower sections of the Susquehanna River, recently named Pennsylvania’s River of the Year. Explore a portion of this 103-mile section on a five-day sojourn in June, sponsored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Enjoy the ride.
Shopping for a cause?
Make a $5 donation to Pennsylvania State Parks and receive a special shopping pass valid at Macy’s department stores on Saturday, April 25th. The offer includes two passes in one: $5 off a $15 purchase* and an all-day shopping pass worth 20% off most purchases and 10% of select home purchases* (*some exclusions apply.) One hundred percent of funds raised will be dedicated to the state park Adventure Camp program – providing urban youth with meaningful outdoor experiences. Call 1-888-727-2757 and request a Macy's shopping pass, an offer too good to pass up.
April is National Garden Month
Gardening can be good for you and the environment and what better time to get started than National Garden Month. Individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities can join the celebration and help make Pennsylvania a greener, healthier, more livable place! Get inspired to garden with native plants through upcoming presentations in Pennsylvania by Dr. Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens or through iConservePA’s new native section at www.iConservePA.org.
