I don’t just enjoy Pennsylvania parks
and forests, I support the Pennsylvania
Parks and Forests Foundation
Members wanted! In collaboration with DCNR staff, an army of volunteers, and a growing number of friends groups, the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, or PPFF, strives to enhance and conserve these special places for all to enjoy. Their new membership program allows everyone to contribute and perpetuate Pennsylvania’s conservation legacy! Regular memberships start at $25. Join PPFF today because it’s their nature…and yours… to help! Be sure to visit their native plant sale in Hummelstown, Dauphin County, on May 17.
Earth…The Movie
Two green thumbs up. That’s what you may say about Earth, Disney’s new nature film. Earth follows the planet through the miraculous odyssey of its seasons and the perilous migrations of its wildlife, celebrating the bounty while sounding an alarm about global warming. Suitable (albeit somber at times) for children and captivating to all ages, the film is a cinematically-spectacular reminder of the imperative to take conservation personally.
Hit the Trail
Need an excuse to put on the hiking boots? Pennsylvania Hiking Week, May 23-31, is great for the soles. Pick a trail to suit your stamina—there are thousands of miles to choose from. Set-off “on your own” with friends or family or join one or more of the nearly 100 hikes being offered across the state in conjunction with the Keystone Trails Association. Explore trails in state parks, state forests, Allegheny National Forest, or city and community parks. Maybe even take-in a section of the legendary Appalachian Trail. Go here to find your path to the outdoors.
